Melissa Fernando - Sri’s Company
With her lovable personality and passion for sharing the rich culinary traditions of her native Sri Lanka, Melissa has been serving flavorful curries, scrumptious street foods and other Sri Lankan delights to the Philadelphia area since 2018. Born in Sri Lanka during a civil war, Melissa was raised between South India and New York. Despite the political turmoil in back home, Melissa continued to visit, often to spend time with her maternal grandmother, Celine Britto. Melissa shared a very special bond with her. She completed her education in India and moved to Philadelphia in 2004 for graduate school, completing a Masters degree in Public Health. In the summer of 2010, her world fell apart when her grandmother passed away, and Melissa had a strong urge to do something to honor her legacy. In 2018, Melissa launched Sri's Company, Philadelphia's premier purveyor of traditional Sri Lankan comfort food. Dishes range from bold and complex curries to intricately spiced vegan dishes. Philly Eater soon named it the Best Pop-Up in its 2021 Eater Awards and Philadelphia Magazine listed Sri’s Company to its list of “The Most Exciting New Restaurants in Philly Right Now.”
